INSIDER TIPS FOR TRAVELLING IN LONDON AND THE UK

Travelling to London can be an exciting opportunity for many, the city itself promising a tantalising amount of fun and adventure whatever your age. However, for many, England will be a very different country to any other they’ve experienced before, especially for a first timer and so it is a good idea to learn a little more about the culture and what to expect on a day to day basis. This country for instance, is one of the only ones to drive on the left-hand side of the road and for a country so in touch with its etiquette, this can be quite a culture shock. Below are just a few of the handy tips you should keep in mind if travelling to the UK and more specifically, spending some time at the Montcalm at the Brewery in London.

How much do you tip in London?

In London it is often customary to tip 10 to 15 percent when you eat out. Amny restaurants will also provide a service charge on payment, which you can accept or decline. This makes it easy for those with a little to spare to help those working in the service industry, who find much of their wages come from tipping. For those who are less well off, there’s no pressure at all. At the end of the day, everyone should tip as per financial viability.

Do you need a visa to visit the UK?

Whilst staying for a prolonged period of time will differ from country to country, you do not need a visa to travel for holiday or business to the UK. If you want to live there, it will be a different story though. For those travelling from countries such as the USA, you can live in the UK for up to six months without a visa.

How expensive is it to travel to London?

When it comes down to it, the cost of your travel will depend when you book your flights or even what method of transport you take. If you’re travelling through Europe then trains may be cheaper, whilst ferries and channel tunnel crossings are also great value if booked in advance. If you’re looking for a good flight, your best bet is a budget airline or to book far in advance.

What is the best time to visit the UK?

This is entirely up to you. Many people may prefer the cold weather, whilst others may enjoy the mild warmth of the British Summer. There are events all year round which will keep you occupied, in London at least. If you’re looking for some festive winter fun then Christmas is a better time than ever to visit the city, with the beautiful lights of Oxford Street glittering before your eyes whilst Hyde Park transports you to a beautiful winter wonderland. Summer will give you a range of benefits as well, especially with the huge range of music and arts festivals which make the most out of London’s wide array of parks. With so much to do both inside and outside, all months are great for London tourism. Whatever your preference, whether it be the arts, food or country walks, London and it’s surrounding areas will cater to all of your interests.
