London has always been one of the best cities in the world for the festive season. What with a glittering skyline already, London only adds to the twinkle with its Christmas lights. Whichever part of London you’re in, there’s always a vibrant atmosphere, full of the smell of roasted chestnuts, the warming glow of Christmas themed high street shop windows, and the sound of carollers and Christmas brass bands playing on what feels like every street corner. London has undoubtedly become one of the most popular destinations for tourists during the Christmas period, but what is there for you to take advantage of as a tourist? London is well known for its wide range of Christmas markets. Whether in East or West, you’ll no doubt stumble across a great market in a scenic part of the city. Each one brings its own vitality and character, selling local produce and arts and crafts from both local and international vendors.

 

Notable markets around the city include Borough Market in London Bridge, known for its international street food stalls, as well as Portobello Market which takes place every weekend on Portobello Road in Notting Hill. One of the best markets for gifts is Spitalfields, located near to some of the best hotels in Shoreditch, whilst the Southbank Centre plays host to the Winter Festival, where you can find unique gifts and Christmas entertainment throughout the advent period.

One of the must-visit Christmas events of the London calendar is Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. Here you’ll find a range of Christmas themed attractions including a funfair, ice bars and a great range of market stalls at the famous Angel’s Market. Open from 10 am till 10 pm, Winter Wonderland is in its 12th year now, and continues to promise beautiful Christmas moments in one of London’s most famous parks.

London is never short of entertainment. Whether it’s a local panto in one of the many London boroughs or Jack Thorne’s Pinocchio at the National Theatre, there’s something for all Christmas tastes. Whatever your looking for from your performance, make sure you book in advance as the Christmas period is sure to be overwhelmed with festive theatre goers!

 

New Year’s Eve Fireworks at the Royal Parks

Now a little on New Year’s. One of the most impressive fireworks displays in London comes from Hyde Park. Between 11 pm and 1 am on New Years Eve, ticketholders can attend a monumental display which welcomes in the New Year for just a tenner.

Live the high life this New Years with a trip to the Shard. This year you can visit their swanky bar on one of the top floors, promising some of the most spectaculars views of the city as the fireworks go off. With champagne flowing, and great food on tap, this is sure to be a magical night.
