Unbeatable Itinerary: How to Spend 7 Days in London

People visit London for all kinds of holiday, of course – weekend getaways and short-breaks of the three- or four-night variety, for sure. But if you fancy a full week in the capital, how should you break down your stay…?

Day 1 – Getting to know London

The first day’s an excellent opportunity to acquaint yourself with the centre of London and orientate yourself. Why not kick things off after breakfast with a good walk around the neighbourhood? Whichever accommodation you’ve chosen to stay at (say, The Montcalm London , you can also find the The Montcalm Club packages that benefits you when you travel), it’s almost inevitable that you’ll find a handful of great attractions in its vicinity. Then, come the afternoon, take in one of the bus-based tours of Central London – and see all the capital’s major sites.

Day 2 – Westminster

Today is the day to sample the seat of power in the UK, the famed historical district of Westminster. Packed full of iconic buildings including Westminster Abbey (the location of so many monarchical coronations since before and after 1066), the Houses of Parliament (featuring the ornate splendour of the House of Commons, the House of Lords and, of course, the ‘Big Ben’ bell in the Elizabeth Tower), Horse Guards Parade, the fascinating Churchill War Rooms museum and just down Whitehall there’s 10 Downing Street too, home and primary workplace – as the world and his wife know – of the British Prime Minister.

Day 3 – The City of London

Focusing the third day around The City – or the ‘Square Mile’, as it’s often referred to – is an great opportunity to spend a morning and/ or early afternoon discovering the oldest and most versatile building in the entire capital, the Thameside-set Tower of London. Following this, take a quick Tube train into The City and wallow in its fascinating merger of ancient streets with dynamic, modern architecture and terrific attractions including the magnificent Restoration-era St. Paul’s Cathedral, as well as the Bank England Museum and London Museum.

Day 4 – The East End

Taking a step further East, today’s why not sample the marvellous multicultural delights of London’s legendary East End? Culturally diverse, to say the least, this is the area of Bethnal Green’s markets and curry houses; Jewish bagel houses and beef brisket-serving eateries; the youthful dynamism of Dalston; the ‘Olympic legacy’ of Stratford’s now entirely open-to-the-public Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and enormous Westfield shopping centre and, of course, the fascinating and electric urban entertainment district that’s Shoreditch (perfect, naturally, should you be staying at one of the hotels in Shoreditch).

Day 5 – Windsor Castle

Time to get out of London today – but, don’t worry, not too far away – for the most Royal of towns that’s Windsor’s just a short train ride out of the capital to the west and well worth a visit. Blessed, of course, with the medieval magnificence of HM Queen’s favourite residence, the rugged yet ornate Windsor Castle, you’ll also find that just down the road (literally across the River Thames) is the village of Eton, dominated by the globally recognised private Eton School, and a little further afield, the renowned family-friendly theme park that’s Legoland Windsor. All round then, an excellent destination for a day out.

Day 6 – The South Bank

Leaving possibly the best until (almost) the last, the South Bank is the stretch of embankment that run all the way from the south side of Westminster Bridge to – more or less – Tower Bridge and, thus, encompasses the attractions that are the London Eye (or ‘Millennium Wheel’, as it was originally called) ; Sea Life London Aquarium; the Tate Modern gallery; the National Theatre; the BFI Southbank cinema complex; the Shakespeare’s Globe theatre and, of course, the multi-entertainment Southbank Centre. Moreover, in the London Bridge area you’ll find too the London Dungeon and Vinopolis venues, in addition to the foodie paradise that’s Borough Market.

Day 7 – As you please!

It could well be today’s your travel-home day, so make great use of the capital’s transport links to sweep your way swiftly and easily to the appropriate airport or, if it’s not, be sure to check out anything that you may have missed in London Town so far!
