WINTER EVENTS FOR YOUR SEASONAL CALENDAR

London is undoubtedly one of the most exciting cities to visit during the winter. Whilst it may be cold and dreary as is the norm in the UK during the autumn and winter, there is definitely a lot to keep you busy during your stay. With so many events and sites tailored specifically to family, friends and colleagues, you’ll find that the holiday season is ripe with opportunity for a great trip regardless of your tastes. Below are some of the great winter events to watch out for, especially if making the most out of the Montcalm club packages available at our 5-star hotels.

Kew Gardens Christmas

With Santa’s grotto and over a million lights decorating the already magnificent gardens, this West London treat is the perfect escape for anyone looking for a breath of fresh air and a feast for the eyes in equal measure. Kew Gardens is already historic in and of itself, so following this trail of glittering baubles, fairy lights and natural beauty is the perfect escape for any London visitor. If you’re visiting with kids, then there’s the bonus of a secret Santa’s Grotto at the end of the festive fairy light trail.

Southbank Winter Festival

The South Bank Winter Festival is one of the best places to enjoy the wonders of Christmas and the festive period. With lights, markets and a broad range of events, from book readings to Christmas carollers, the Southbank Winter Festival is perfect for those who want to get a taste of Christmas alongside beautiful views of the Thames.

Winter at the V & A

The V and A, or the Victoria and Albert Museum of Design is based in South Kensington and is known for the diverse range of exhibits all year round. Winter is a very special period for the V and A, as they concoct exhibits of some of the best in historic Christmas design and art. On top of this, the unique Gingerbread City exhibit which opens on the 8th of December is made up of over 50 Gingerbread buildings, creating an accessible way to explore the architectural future of our society.

Lumiere Festival

Once the Christmas lights come down, you can expect to see more light up the cityscape as the last two weeks of January play host to some of the best designs and installations by internationally renowned artists. Follow the Lumiere trail and experience some of the most hypnotising, dazzling and technically complex pieces of light based art in Europe.

Burns Night London

This special date in the Scottish calendar is not reserved for those who are North of the border. Burns Night has spread to London as well, with feasts and festivities occurring during this celebration of Scottish culture. Initially created as a celebration of the life and works of Scottish poet and national treasure Robert Burns. With pipers playing in feast guests at venues across London, and a range of cultural and musical events focussing on the Scottish poet, you’ll find the 25th of January to be an exciting and inclusive event for all who are interested in learning a little more about Scottish heritage.
