Summer Date ideas

There is nothing like feeling love in summer. The weather is warm, the light lasts later and later into the evening, so you feel inspired to make the most of those precious extra hours you feel you have been gifted after work to actually have some time for yourself. And the weekends feel like they might last forever, which is perfect for those butterfly-inducing dates that you just don’t want to end.

Regardless of whether your romance is still in its early days, if you’re going steady, if your love is long-term or even if you’re married or committed for life, you should always be looking out for interesting new things to do as a couple. At whatever stage you find yourself, there is something for every kind of couple on offer this summer so, you are sure to find some things that tickle your fancy to sprinkle your calendar with and look forward to together.

Fulham Beach

While the central part of London is not fortunate enough to have its own ocean for you to cool off in, that hasn’t stopped resourceful venues from making sure that you always have the beach at your disposal. If you make your way South-West to Neverland London, you will find the little bit of jungle paradise interwoven with sand and umbrellas at Fulham Beach. Opening this year from 10 April, you can feel the sand in between your toes from as little as £5.00 per person. You can add all kinds of extras depending on the kind of experience you wish to have from your own beach hut to a very exclusive cabana or even the jungle-themed covered pergola should the weather take a turn for the rainy.

With multiple bars, all kinds of street food and the atmosphere of a beach club. On any given day that they are open, you can buy a ticket to try your hand at mini golf, shuffleboard, ping pong and beer pong: just remember not to let your competitive spirit come between you and your partner! However, they also offer different classes and events every week for something a little different. Check out their website to see when they are offering cocktail masterclasses, yoga on the beach, try your hand at sand sculpting, learn from glitter artists or attend their BBQ supper clubs. Also on their weekly agenda, is a 2-hour Rosé Saturday (which gets you bottomless rosé along with a £10.00 voucher to buy your choice of street food from their vendors) for the price of £25.00 per person. Whereas Sundays play host to a 2-hour Bottomless Beach Brunch for £30.00: also inclusive of the £10.00 street food voucher, but with bottomless bubbles instead of rosé.

Spa Day

Now the next suggestion is best suited to the more long-term and truly committed relationships because if you set the bar with this level of luxury and pampering then it’s going to be hard to top it or maintain the standard going forward. That being said, once you have a look at the Montcalm Hotel Spa Deals, you’ll see that there are options for all degrees of extravagant indulgence fit for different budgets and all sorts of occasions. If you head over to their Royal London House specifically for its Beauty and Melody Spa, then you’ll find a whole range of body, face & massage treatments as well as some of their signature Thalgo “Capsule Rituals”.

Treatments range from 25 minutes to a blissful hour-and-a-half: but keep in mind that you will need to have booked at least an hour’s worth of treatments per person for you both to gain access to the rest of the “urban spa” facilities, which feature a swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. If your partner is an expectant mother, then you really should be showering her with every form of pregnancy-safe pampering available. You will then be pleased to know that this Montcalm spa specifically offers a 50-minute and a 90-minute Pregnancy Massage for the woman whose body needs it the most.

While your day will have been filled with calming aromas inside a 5-star spa, it will still have been indoors on a wonderful day. Fortunately, Royal London House is also the home of Aviary: the exquisite rooftop restaurant and bar, from which you can see Shoreditch to the North and St Pauls Cathedral to the South. The perfect place to end off your day of pampering by gazing across the sunbathed skyline.

London in the Sky

While the Beauty and Melody Spa at Montcalm Royal London House is a wonderful treat, this one is the crème-de-la-crème of Summer Date suggestions – but best believe that it does not come cheap, so you better save it for a very, very special occasion. Behold: The Sky Table. That’s right, a unique and gravity-defying dining experience whereby 22 guests are strapped into harnesses and suspended 100 ft into the air to eat, drink and be merry as you not only look out onto the vista of London but actually form part of it yourselves.

Unsurprisingly, this experience is only open in summer and bookings are already available for May, June and July. They run multiple trips throughout the day depending on the kind of course you would like to enjoy up in the sky and also have additional extras that can be purchased to extend your celebration back on the ground. Be it an anniversary, a special birthday or even a proposal: this is one experience that your partner will never forget. Just make sure that they’re not afraid of heights, or else they will be remembering it for entirely the wrong reasons.

Potter’s Field

However, the key to a summer romance is not in how much money you spend on your partner. Many of us are not in the position to wine and dine our loved ones to such extremes, so don’t let your idea of romantic gestures of a lovely day out be defined in such a way.

One of my favourite things to do is to take the nearest Meal Deal and 2-for-1 Deal on some tinnies to Potter’s Field on the South Bank side of the Thames next to Tower Bridge. All sorts of people show up to enjoy the last few golden hours of sunshine and most often there will also be some entertainment in the form of an acoustic guitar and once even an Acapella group. An experience like this can only be made better by sharing it with someone special, so just make sure to take your other half out and about this summer.
